Social spending by President

I just published a spreadsheet Social spending by President, which gives the highest value of social spending and the average for each president. The numbers are the percentage of GDP spent on what the government calls "Human Resources". That includes most forms of social spending. You can update or revise my spreadsheet if you are so inclined.

The data show that there is an increase during most administrations. Indeed if the Ford administration was left out, then we would have an increase for every administration since spending was higher under Carter than under Nixon, although spending under Ford was higher than either.

This shows that far from there being an entrenched, capitalist ideology in either party, we have an entrenched ideology in our country that is hostile to capitalism, at least when it comes to social spending. The trend in this regard is for each administration to outdo the last. I also put this on my list of published documents.
