This is a link to the the text of one of Augustine's works. Chapter 9 is the only part of the work that touches on the subject of Augustine's stance on this subject. All it says is that knowledge of scientific matters is not necessary for salvation, and Christians shouldn't be disturbed that they know less on these matters than non-Christian Greek philosophers and scientists.
Nothing in the work touches on the subject of how scriptural interpretation should respond to scientific inquiry. Although it does cover many other interesting subjects, like which sins can be expiated through purgatory.
